Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teaching Credential

Pending adequate cohort size, EDS might offer a California Preliminary Education Specialist: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teaching Credential (DHH) for students applying to the M.Ed./Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program.

In keeping with its aim of training teachers who will be able to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing children from various language and cultural backgrounds, EDS requires fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) for acceptance into the DHH program.

The DHH credential would also require one additional quarter of study (Fall quarter) that would take place after the completion of the Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Please note that the completion of the Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential is mandatory in order to stay one additional quarter to take the required courses for the "additional" DHH credential.

If you are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and would you like to be considered for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Credential option, please respond to the relevant question already included in your online M.Ed./MS application and state that you would be interested in the program. EDS will evaluate, pending adequate cohort size, if this additional credential option will be offered and inform interested applicants.

Please note that if this option is available, it would only be for the M.Ed./Multiple Subject Credential candidates.
