Anita Caduff

Anita Caduff is a Ph.D. candidate in Education Studies at the University of California, San Diego. She was born and raised in Switzerland, where she graduated with a B.A. and an M.A. in Teaching at Secondary School Level 1 (7th to 9th grade) from the University of Fribourg. Before beginning the Ph.D. program, she worked as a middle school teacher in Switzerland, as a German language teacher in the United States, and did voluntary work in a kindergarten, a day care, and a middle school in Togo.

Her research interests include social network analysis and social capital, cross-national research, newcomer and immigrant-origin students, multicultural and inclusive classrooms and schools, parental engagement, knowledge mobilization, educational change, and teacher and school leader social networks. Anita is convinced that applying social network analysis and understanding social capital can help to generate new insights to improve education towards more equity and social justice.

For her cross-national and mixed methods dissertation, she studies immigrant-origin middle school students’ educational experiences and social networks, and how these shape their opportunities and aspirations in the United States and Switzerland.
