Susan Scharton received a B.A. in Sociology and her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from the University of California, San Diego in 1980. She later earned an M.A. in Curriculum Design from UC San Diego in 2001 and completed her Ed.D. in Teaching and Learning in 2007.
She was a classroom teacher for twenty years and taught grades 1–6. She has served as a mentor teacher and language resource teacher and is also a mathematics consultant for Marilyn Burns Education Associates. She has participated in the Writing, Literature, and Mathematics Subject Matter Projects.
She enjoys writing about teaching in general and mathematics teaching and learning in particular. Her book, Teaching Number Sense, was published in fall 2005. She teaches in the PAL program, teaches language arts methods to elementary credential candidates, and supervises elementary credential candidates.
In her free time, she enjoys writing, knitting, cooking, and spending time with her husband and dogs.
