Elizabeth Pappas earned her B.A. in Liberal Studies and a BCLAD authorization in Spanish, with additional authorization in English, from San Diego State University. She was a biliteracy classroom teacher and language arts specialist in grades K–6 for thirteen years in the National School District.
She joined Education Studies in 2008 as a supervisor of elementary credential candidates and continues in that role. She also teaches the Teaching the English Learner course in Education Studies.
In addition, she serves as an English Learner Resource Teacher with the Office of Language Acquisition in San Diego Unified School District. Her work focuses on teacher professional development related to designing high-quality interactions for English learners and building successful biliteracy and immersion programs.
Her work is grounded in Appreciative Inquiry, and she is passionate about education that invites learners in and engages them in intellectual challenge with strong support. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters, and dog. She also enjoys hiking, walking, baking cookies, reading, and writing.
