Richelle Jurasek Kumar
Richelle Jurasek-Kumar is a current PhD student in the Department of Education Studies. She received her Masters in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Teachers College, Columbia University and spent three years teaching Multilingual Learners at a secondary school in the Bronx, New York. Richelle currently works as an ELD Instructional Coach at a Title I middle school near downtown San Diego focusing specifically on supporting teachers in designing differentiated lessons that take into account their Multilingual Learners’ assets and areas for growth. Richelle is interested in state and federal language policy as it relates to Multilingual Learners’ academic outcomes both in and after secondary school. She plans to focus her research on how language policy can address the unique needs of Long-Term English Learners in California’s public schools. She can be reached at rjurasek@ucsd.edu.
