Sushil Shintre

Sushil Shintre is a current Ph.D. student in Education Studies at UC San Diego. He has taught in different schools in India across regional, age and socio-economic contexts for seven years. He has also spent time working with children from some of the poorest and most marginalized sections of the society in an effort towards assimilating them in the mainstream education system. While his area of teaching has been mathematics and the sciences, he is also interested in the sociological aspect of schooling and how the current schooling systems must adapt as we move towards more egalitarian societies. He is interested in examining the role schools play in helping perpetuate or resist social inequalities. Specifically, he wishes to investigate the common practices in Indian schools that help strengthen or weaken caste-based prejudice in the students. He has a Bachelor of Technology degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Mumbai.
