Valerie A. Gómez

Valerie is the granddaughter and daughter of Salvadoran immigrants, a first-generation college graduate, and a rising third-year PhD student at the University of California, San Diego. Her research draws from Chicana/Latina feminist methodologies, Critical Race Theory, and Latino Critical Race Theory to examine how race, ethnicity, gender, and immigration status mediate the academic experiences of Latinx students in higher education.

Valerie has several years of experience working in higher education supporting the holistic development and academic success of transfer and undocumented students. Valerie earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from UCLA and a master’s degree in counseling with an option in student development in higher education from CSULB.
